Really, some repetitious vocals going on here. More sing a long chants than I care for (One is too much). Good album, it doesn't touch the early stuff of course, but not too bad.The way overly repetitous vocals knocks this album back from being really good and listenable.

Technical Black Metal. Fast and scary. These guys really get going. Hang on a second...there's some styles here getting mixed that don't usually get mixed. They take some hard right turns towards the unexpected. Purist will be sure to hate on this. It's got the feel of a side project where things are too adventuresome for the "main" band. These guys have got skills and this record pretty much rules.

-Head and shoulders better than their demo from a couple years back. Arms and legs better. They're really matured and dialed it in since then. I guess their singer left. Bummer.

Megadeth - Thirteen

If somebody asked me if I liked Megadeth I would say, "No, not really". I liked Peace Sells when it came out. Quite a bit actually, but over the years with all their MTV stuff and whatever, I was never really into them. Too much technicality and not enough groove beat down. I could never get into Rust In Peace and that's suppose to be one of the greatest Thrash albums ever. Like I said too much technical wanking, not enough groove.

So I wasn't expecting much from this new one at all. Guess what? It's pretty damn good. I think it just comes down to having good songs and not a bunch of wanking. There are some fiery multi note solos here and there, but they belong and don't detract. I wouldn't even call this album Thrash. I'll call it Metal, with the occasional Thrash influence. This has been in regular rotation in the car. There's some political stuff in the lyrics, but it's not exactly thought provoking. It's just there. I think the first couple songs are the weakest on the album and they're not bad at all. Digin' this record.

-For fans of Hooded Menace. This sounds pretty much just like that.

Having seen Some Kind Of Monster, the movie that documents the making of this album...It was hard to take this album seriously...at this point in their careers. That coupled with the universally bad reviews...and my having lost interest in Metallica years before...I never gave this album a full listen. Here it is almost 2012 and I'm listening to the whole album for the first time. I don't think it's as bad a people have led me to believe. It does have two major flaws. The sound of the snare drum, which sounds like a basketball being bounced on a sheet of aluminum throughout the entire album. #2 The lyrics and James Hetfields singing of them. The lyrics are probably only bothersome about half the time. If you forget that Metallica existed before 1991 then this album is pretty good.

The songs sound like a band rockin' out. They're heavy. They groove, but sometimes go on a little too long. They have sections that could be removed to make thing a little bit more concise. No solos.

This album got quite a bit of play in the car this summer, I was just trying to figure it out I guess. Most Doom/Sludge is pretty straight to the point, this is a little bit more thought provoking.

As a matter of fact there's only vocals at the beginning of one song, then there's about six minutes of guitar soloing. I can appreciate what's going on here, but I really don't enjoy it. I have to admit something good must be going on here, but If I had my choice of AC/DC or Zappa, nine times out of ten I'll be reaching for High Voltage. I'm simple like that.

Wo-Fat actually is from Texas so somehow you can hear the ZZ Top in there. One of the cooler releases this year. Which you would expect because Texas has been having a heatwave for like three months and wild fires too.

Ramesses I gave the first record a listen today and that thing is a fucking bulldozer of fucking heavy crushing steamrollerness. I like it 'cuz it's pretty much all out and super heavy, but this thing dosn't crawl it moves along at a battering clip. It's It's all out let it lose in the performance as well as the production. I like this kind of thing, but if your looking for good songs and production Take The Curse is one of my favorite records of 2010. Still in rotation in the car.

Bluesy late model Henrix-y, but kinda generic. Little bit of funky soul, but mostly rockin'...blues. I like Arthur Lee, but I would for sure be reaching for the Love albums first. This record is cool though, reminds me of Mountain or somebody like that when this rocks hard. There's some rambling and silliness too.
