Been seriously diggin' this one the last couple days.

Progressive Rock from 1970 with Ray Charles like vocals. Some kinda loose soul funkiness going on here. + flute.

Human Instinct - Burning Up Years

1970

Totally diggin' this. Kick back groovin' rock like the Grateful Dead or something, and I hate the Grateful dead.
Later they cover You Really Got Me. They also get more garagey and psychedelic.
Then a lot of guitar wanking. Which is what the next album is all about.

The Guess Who - American Woman

1970

Diverse classic rock album. This is pretty awesome commercial hard rock that's probably been played on FM radio for 40 years straight.

Food Brain - Social Gathering

A bunch of organ soloing all over this instrumental album. Songs are all over the place in that wacky Japanese kind of way. Sometime some cool guitar soloing comes in to take the place of the organ. Song titles are cool. Liver Juice Vending Machine, The Hole In The Sausage, The Conflict Of The Hippo And The Pig...you know, things like that. Sounds like these guys got together to do some jamming. After listening to it once I for sure had to listen again to try to figure out what the hell is going on here. I don't think there's much to figure out though it's just some jammin'. It's alright. Mildly interesting for a few spins. A bunch of these guys went on to better projects. Oh yeah, there's a jazzy song on here to with sax skronking and everything. The album is pretty much dominated by organ soloing. Farfisa organ if I'm not mistaken.

The Third Power - Believe

These guys were from Detroit. They've got the Cream power trio thing going on. Smokin' guitars, hippy vocals. Cool album. Fancy production.

Red Dirt - Red Dirt

Bluesy psyche rock. They've got a hippy rock feel sometimes too.

Octopus - Restless Night

If the Monkees were a hard rock band. These guys have a Rock pop thing going on. Not unlike Badfinger, they're trying to pop and rock at the same time.

Hot Tuna - Hot Tuna

Acoustic guitar and bass sometimes harmonica live in a coffee house. Sounds like the Grateful Dead unplugged. I think it's a couple guys from Jefferson Airplane.

Similiar to Deep Purple but more epic.

Santana - Abraxas

Everybody's jammin and rockin out! Lots of percusions. Sparse vocals...and Carlos Santana playing the guitar.

Fresh Blueberry Pancake - Fresh Blueberry Pancake

Raw blues rock that rocks a plenty. There's a good chance these guys were fans of Blue Cheer. It's definatley got that grimey biker bar, cranked up overdriven psyche guitar thing going on. It might be my system, but the bass is super prominent in the mix. It's like your standing over on his side.

Flower Travelin' Band - Anywhere

I think this is all covers. I think this is great. For fans of Cream, Sabbath, Hendrix...

-I guess this is their first one. The next one Satori, kicks all kinds of ass.

Suck - Time To Suck

This is a killer hard rock album. I think just about all the songs are covers. I guess that's why these guys don't come up more often when the talk turns to great obscure 70's rock bands. Good guitar playing all over this record.

Fun Facts: These guys are from South Africa, and I think the singer is from Greece. Not sure if that's true about the singer though.

Cactus - Cactus

1970

Blues rock that's pulling away from the blues and becoming more rock. Throw this one on the next time you want to listen to Led Zeppelin...they have a slight Rolling Stones thing going on too.

John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band

Some great stuff on here and stuff I don't feel like sitting through. Cool stripped down introspective songs.

Fraction - Moon Blood

Somber psyche tinged hard rock. The singer sets this one apart from the average. At his worst he's a whimpy hippie. At his best he's a drunk howling Jim Morrison. I like the guitar playing on here quite a bit as well. If you like early Stooges type rawness. Yeah, Stooges meets the Doors at church hippy picnic. There's something that's "messed up" about this. That may be the factor that makes this album stand out.

Josefus - Josefus + Dead Man

Two albums on one CD here. Psychedelic hippy hard rock. Lots of guitar rockin'. Second album is heavier.
