Rainbow - Difficult to Cure

I remember when Can't Happen Here used to be in semi heavy rotation on MTV...these songs are pretty "commercial" and every time I'm about to give up on a song, for being too wimpy, here comes the guitar solo (or keyboard solo) and all of a sudden I'm diggin' it. Into the chorus and I'm like, all smiles. Then the whole process starts over on every song.

Rainbow - Long Live Rock 'N Roll

I've never been able to get into this one like. They're a great band and there are great songs on here. It's not as engaging as Rising where I can really get into that one, and even more of the first. This feel like background music that's pleasant enough to listen to while I'm doing other stuff. Not really feeling The Shed or L.A. Connection...I don't get stoked on this one like the first two. It's still Dio, which also makes it better than A lot of other bands. Sensitive to light, I don't know man this album feels like quite a slide from Rising. Rising was like they were charging into the future pushing the boundaries. This is a step backwards...except for, you know, Kill The King and Long Live Rock 'n Roll.

This is some enjoyable straight ahead rocking. Sounds like a lost 70's jem with a little bit of a Nirvana vibe.
Bongripper - Terminal

The band is called Bongripper. There is two songs. One called Slow, that is 25 minutes long. The second song is called Death. It's 18 minutes long. It's mosstly crushing heaviness, but there's mellow parts too. It's all really well done. No vocals.

Not quite a five star album, but Dio makes the couple weaker tracks seem even better than they are. Some straight up rock and roll classics on here. A 1975 release that really does bridge 70's rock to what would come in the 80's. Awesome record.

Thunder Horse is a Doom Metal band from Texas and they rock! I wasn't sure at first, but this has really grown on me. The vocalist really has something to say. A favorite of mine from 2018.
Yob - Our Raw Heart

Yob is one of the all time great Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal bands. You can't go wrong with any of their albums. There's a heartfelt honest quality to their music that really connects with fans. "Yob is Love" is a saying that's been going around these internets for more that a decade. On this album it shows more than ever. Trvia note, singer/guitarist Mike Scheidt suffered a life threatening illness around 2017. This album was written while he was recovering. So, you might sense more of a somberness than usual here. Record of the year 2018.
Khemmis - Desolation

Khemmis put out their first album, Absolution, in 2015. That was one of my very favorite releases from that year. They put out Hunted a year later. Most people considered it better than the first. Now their third album, Desolation. It sounds like Khemmis. If you're not familiar with Khemmis you should check them out.
Worshipper - Mirage Daze

Worshipper put out a great album, I think in 2016. I think this was recorded at the same time. This is a 4 song ep of covers they do, The Who, The Oath, Pink Floyd and Uriah Heap. This is a killer rock and roll band with one of my very favorite singers going today. They rock well and have awesome guitar solos that really hit the spot. They work perfectly. Worshipper is an awesome band. I'm really looking forward to new stuff from these guys. I think they're from Massachusetts.
Stone Deaf - The Bobby Peru EP

This is a three song ep of covers. It for sure sounds more like Stone Deaf than the bands they are covering. Stone Deaf have a really tight in the pocket sound. Stone Deaf don't sound like your usual Stoner Rock band.
Pseudo Mind Hive - From Elsewhere

Eerie Sci Fi Psychedelia fuzz rock. The production is weird on this, but I think it's supposed to be. It add to a claustrophobic outer space vibe. These guys are from Australia.
Nograves - Abbadon

Slow and heavy Post Rocky Doom with growly vocals. There's screamy vocaly too, they also pick up the pace sometimes. This is a two song ep that runs almost 20 minutes. I'm looking forward to more from these guys. They're from the PNW.

There's a 70's rock thing going on here for sure, but there's something more. It's like a progressive twist but it seems like they're straight forward banging them out. They're rocking out in 70's style but it's fresh, not a rehash of old riffs. They are the bridge between Pink Floyd and Ted Nugent. There is much guitar rock out here. These guys are from Australia and this is one of the best records of 2018.

Beastmaker is a horror Doom band, but their songs are really concise and to the point. Like three minute pop doom songs. Good songwriting and ripping guitar always. From Fresno California.

Stoner Rock like Kyuss. Really good production. This album sounds really good. These guys are from Belgium.

This is really good. Similar to All Them Witches where it pretty rockin' but not so obnoxious that it's off putting. Pretty accessible and rocks! Plenty heavy, plenty rockin' enough psyche and wetstern vibe to mix things up. One of my favorite from 2018. These guys are from Australia.

Starts of sounding a lot like Om. As the album progresses it sounds less and less like Om and turns into a lot of Bass and drum jamming. Minimal vocals.
