The Tubes -The Tubes

Manic proggy-ish kitchen sink rock that reminds me of Frank Zappa/Sparks. I'm not really a Zappa fan at all, but this is sorta OK. Mid 70's rock with synthesizers. It made Sadie spin around in circles till she would fall down over and over, so I guess that counts for something.-You might even hear stuff that reminds you of Steely Dan and David Bowie.

Ramesses - Misanthropic Alchemy

Ramesses I gave the first record a listen today and that thing is a fucking bulldozer of fucking heavy crushing steamrollerness. I like it 'cuz it's pretty much all out and super heavy, but this thing dosn't crawl it moves along at a battering clip. It's It's all out let it lose in the performance as well as the production. I like this kind of thing, but if your looking for good songs and production Take The Curse is one of my favorite records of 2010. Still in rotation in the car. |

Arbouretum - The Gathering

Sounds like the band is built around featuring this guys vocals (More Lannegan than Cornell). The tunes are pretty laid back and cool. They've got a early 70's kind of thing going on. Sounds like they could take off and jam for a half hour at any point. I've heard them compared to Crazy Horse, I suppose that's as good as anybody I can think of...but more modern like Dead Meadow or somebody like that.

Bluesy late model Henrix-y, but kinda generic. Little bit of funky soul, but mostly rockin'...blues. I like Arthur Lee, but I would for sure be reaching for the Love albums first. This record is cool though, reminds me of Mountain or somebody like that when this rocks hard. There's some rambling and silliness too.

First Impression:
Acid King with more dynamics and instrumentation = approaching and entering Post-Rockisms.Big wall of sound guitar riffs like Goatsnake with sad violins and stuff. Really cool vocal melodies. Once in a while the guitar sounds like early Melvins. Epic awesomeness.
Reminds me of Come with the sad depressing vocals. It's May 2 and this is by far my favorite release of 2011.
This album rules.

Sorta traditional doom/metal, but way more pissed.Closer to Electric Wizard or Bongzilla than Reverend Bizarre. I give this sucker a thumbs up. Hope you like screaming. Aggro and heavy...and epic too.
Whitesnake - Forevermore

Bluesy rock metal that's not to far removed from 90's Whitesnake (or was it the 80's?). Better than expected, but not much different than a million other bluesy rock metal bands. Those other bands don't have a 60 year old David Coverdale singing for them though.
Pharaoh Overlord - Out Of Darkness

High energy Ted Nugent riffs and Danzig like vocals on the first song. Thankfully they abandon that. The next song falls into repetition, Devastator sounds like the record is stuck for way too long...just annoying really. Then the rest of the album rocks real well. Cool NWOBHM influences. Heaviness. They mix things up to keep it from getting stale. Cool record. Did I mention NWOBHM? I haven't heard too many 2011 releases this year, but this is one of the better ones.-I thought this guy was singing in different styles on different songs, but I just found out that they have four different guys doing the vocals.
-Maiden at their gallopingnest, Scorps at their sleaziest, Accept at their speediest. This album kicks ass. Late 70's early 80's Metal.

Totally diggin' this. Kick back groovin' rock like the Grateful Dead or something, and I hate the Grateful dead.Later they cover You Really Got Me. They also get more garagey and psychedelic.
Then a lot of guitar wanking. Which is what the next album is all about.
