Thin Lizzy - Thin Lizzy

1971
Hendix-y in places. Baroque in places. Folksy in places. Good vocals everywhere. Production/mixing techniques that you certainly don't hear anymore. Nice/good storytelling songs.
Not the rock powerhouse they would become, but this is a really good album. This is before it all gets put together, this album has all (most) of the ingredients. They're not quite hard rock at this point. It's more of a Hendrix inspired folksy bluesy rock band.

The Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame

1971
Now I know how the folks who ate the brown acid felt.

-There's some amazing stuff going on here, but the damn thing just makes me have bad thoughts.

Silberbart - 4 Times Sound Razing

1971
If Pink Floyd and Melt Banana had a baby and threw song structure out the window on the way to the hospital...and that's just the first song.

Krautrock Masterpiece.

Moses - Changes

1971
Sounding like a bluesier slightly more restrained version of early Blue Cheer.

Thundermother - No Red Rowan

Killer psyche guitar meets heavy blues hippy rock. Elements of Blue Cheer aspiring to be Free by way of Grand Funk Railroad dressed as a hippy psyche band during the acid trip scene in a movie. Good good stuff.

Alice Cooper - Love It To Death

This is the third Alice Cooper record. Totally different than the first two. Most people seem to credit producer Bob Ezrin for giving the band a more commercial rock focus. This one rocks. Good record. It rocks real good but still has some of the oddness of the earlier albums. Tripped out like Pink Floyd and the Doors.

It's got I'm Eighteen.

I think the band located to Detroit around this time and picked up on how things were done from The Stooges and MC5.

Cactus - One Way... Or Another

Blues rock. Sounds like Foghat or something...but better. Pretty good 70's rockin' out right here.

This is the second studio album with the original line-up: Carmine Appice (Drummer) and Tim Bogert (Bass) from Vanilla Fudge, Jim McCarty (INCREDIBLE GUITAR) from Mitch Ryder, and Rusty Day vocals (Ted Nugent & Amboy Dukes).

Killing Floor - Out Of Uranus

This is more garagey than I was expecting. The album before this one is some killer blues rock if I'm remembering correctly. High energy. There's some blues here too.

Neil Young - Live At Massey Hall

Recorded in 1971. Neil and his guitar. Then Neil and a piano. That's when it gets really depressing. Then he gets back to his guitar. Killer album great songs. It's all a big bummer.

-This album was recorded between the releases of After The Gold Rush and Harvest.

Blues Rock. Soaring guitars and some orchestration.

Leaf Hound - Growers Of Mushrooms

Leaf Hound - Growers Of Mushrooms (1971) 4 1/2
Awesome catchy hard rock that grooves. Similar to Led Zeppelin and one song, the title track, sounds very much like the Who. Which sounds out of place here.

Toad - Toad

Heavy hard rock. Some odd changes where things get trippy. Some extended rock out jams. These guys rock out real good. I'm not so sure how good their songs are though.

The Charlie Daniels Band - The Charlie Daniels Band

1971
Alice Cooper and Bob Dylan meet in Alabama to make a southern fried record. A good one.

May Blitz - 2nd Of May

Hard rockin' and Third Stone From The Sun type jam outs. Groovyness and dark trippyness.
Killer!
Good production. A couple of mello songs that bring to mind Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath. Sometimes Spinal Tap comes to mind too. An English Spinal Tap at their peak.
Killer!

Dust - Dust

Hippy hard rock that sometimes has a southern thing going on. It gets heavy too. It gets extended rock jam too. Good one.

Fun Facts: Marky Ramone was in this band before he was Marky Ramone.

Brainticket - Cottonwood Hill

Wanking progressive psychedelic funkiness. With a girl doing some kind of performance art over the top. Pack this in your bags when you take your next acid trip.

Bang - Bang

Heavy power trio. Leaning towards the dark side. Menacing groovy hippie hard rock.

Blackwater Park - Dirt Box

Killer 70's Heavy rock. Like Uriah Heep, Free, Grand Funk, Cream, Deep Purple(Hammond). Killer guitar all the time. Blues rock where the blues is starting to get left behind. It gets all psychedelic heavy jam rock out too.

Fun Facts: These guys are from Germany and have an English singer.
