Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer

Not a memorable song on here, but it rocks when I listen to it. Plus its got Dio so you can't complain.

Brutality - In Mourning

1996

Some pretty awesome Death Metal going on right here. Gruff coarse vocals bordering on the whole cookie monster thing, but not quite there.

Free Kitten - Nice Ass

Minimalist New York punk rock in a post Sonic Youth/Beck world. Not for everybody, but I like this a lot. Songs about the music industry and being in a band.

Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer

This album is a mush biscuit. Once in a while something stands out to grab your attention, but the rest of the time I feel like I'm just waiting it out.

The songwriting is the biggest problem, along with the weird production and annoying drum sound. At least it's got Dio and Iommi and Geezer. Didn't Geezer write most of these songs and have a lot to do with the production? Was that this album?

This came out in 1992 and it sounds like they're trying to hang in with where metal was at in '92.

All these songs are heavy, dark and heavy. I don't think anyone was accusing Black Sabbath of selling out when this album was released.

Nothing memorable happening here. I listen to it once in a while. Dio is Dio you know. Barely above average tunes and Dio brings it up to a B-. Barely.

Monster Magnet - Spine Of God

At this point Monster Magnet had a raw RAW rockin' sound. They were touchin' on psychedelia ...They really reminded me of early Mudhoney. The two bands went in completly different directions, but early on they seemed to be drawing from the same influences. Probably the Stooges and a bunch of weed and beer. Maybe a few hits of acid here and there. Think I'll wet my pants doing whippetts. Lots of spacey-ness, but it's all got an aggressive edge to it.

Armored Saint - Symbol Of Salvation

Hard Rock/Metal like Y&T or Keel. Seems like this type of Metal was out of fashion in 1991. I'm told this is the best Armored Saint album. I'm only familiar with March Of The Saint and that one is not bad at all. This one is more in the pocket and driving.

Stompbox - Stress

Rob Zombie and Helmet have a baby while the Stone Temple Pilots stand around and watch...from behind.

Electric Wizard - Come My Fanatics

Wallow in it.

Entombed - Clandestine

Beat down riffery rumble wall! Chaotic awesome and some crazy production techniques here and there. Evil rockin' and killer solos and a guitar sound that cuts into your head like an electric carving knife. Raw and huge.

The Knack - Serious Fun

If Sammy Hagar joined the Knack. Doug Fieger called this their "metal" album. Problem is, it was 1991. If they had tried t0 make a Grunge album it probably would have put them right back on top. Nirvana would have taken them on tour, and all of a sudden there's a whole new generation of Knack fans. This doesn't sound very metal. Maybe in the Cult territory or a bad L.A. hair band once in a while.

Broken Hope - The Bowels Of Repugnance

You know when your kitchen sink is clogged and full of a bunch of crap? It's filling up with water and you flick the switch for the garbage disposal. The water starts draining and when it gets to the drain, it starts making a sucking gasping sound along with the disposal motor. That's the vocals here. One of the most stupid things I have heard in my life.

Entombed - Wolverine Blues

Monster riffs. Monster grooves. Monster Awesome!

Karp - Suplex

1995

Punk rock attitude, dirty, heavy noisey rock. I find the vocals to be annoying at least half of the time. There's a Melvins cover on here but they put their own lyrics on and call it a Karp song.

Karp - Action Chemistry

A collection of singles, comp tracks, and covers all recorded in the 90's. Spastic punk rock that brings the noise and the heavy. Probably the best stuff from Karp.

Broken Hope - Loathing

Cookie Monster vocals but I like it anyway. It's got riffs and breakdowns you just can't ignore. Metal beatdown!

Megadeth - Rust In Peace

This is supposed to be Megadeths' crowning achievement. Personally I prefer groove over all this technical wanking. I'd rather listen to Peace Sells when it comes to Megadeth, but I'm not really much of a fan. This sounds too much like a machine, not even fun.

Exhorder - Slaughter At The Vatican

Fast Thrash with some Pantera influence...Oh, but wait. This is before Pantera.

Assorted Heap - Mindwaves

Wow! this is pretty darn good. The last gasp for thrash coming from Germany.

Kyuss - Wretch

1991

First album. Raw and angry. The production sucks you in, it's almost murky. The music sounds squashed.
Killer.
I keep wanting to turn it up.
Like your in a tunnel and the throbbing marshmello of the band is taking your oxygen.
Guitar amp sounds like it's shredding it and you've got your head stuck in there.
