Demonic Death Judge - The Descent

Don't let the name fool you this is really good.

-Sounding a lot like the Weedeater/Bongzilla side of things. Zoraoster. They're doing it real good.

David Benson - Purposes Of The Cross

1996
Well, David Benson certainly has Ozzys' vocal sound down to a T. The tunes sound like some early Sabbath.

East Of The Wall - The Apologist

2011
These guys rock out real good. Jam out! Jam band meets Post-Rock.

Fair To Midland - Arrows & Anchors

2011
It's like the Deftones, I think. I'm not sure exactly what the Deftones sound like. This is Duran Duran metal. Thom York singing for the Deftones. Less and less metal as it progresses. Wussies.

Unholy Cadaver - Unholy Cadaver

2011
Iron Maiden inpired heavy metal meets technical speedy metal. and metal. Lots of stuff going on here. -Progressive metal. You can hear Pink Floyd, Maiden, Queensryche...It's like Post progressive Metal 'cuz it's very modern and very rocking.

Trap Them - Darker Handcraft

2011
Chaotic rapid beat down. Get pummeled! This really wears me out.

Tombs - Path Of Totality

2011
Gut wrenching Black Metal inspired gutter crawling with a sludge hammer. It's like getting beat up for an hour in many different ways.

Neither Regions - Into The Breach

2011
Iron Maidenish guitar epicness meets High On Fire steamroller of rumble.

Machinehead - Unto The Locust

2011
This is better than I thought it was going to be. Tough guy metal that is commercial metal. Not into the vibe here. Doesn't suck. No, the lyrics are too wimpy to be tough guy metal. They seem to be directed at 14 year old girls.

Iron Maiden - Brave New World

2001
Really, some repetitious vocals going on here. More sing a long chants than I care for (One is too much). Good album, it doesn't touch the early stuff of course, but not too bad.The way overly repetitous vocals knocks this album back from being really good and listenable.

Hull - Beyond The Lightless Sky

2011
Thank you Hull for bringing something new to the table. I'm not even sure what's going on here. Somewhere in the neighborhood of Rwake...a post rock Rwake.

Hell - Human Remains

2011
Old school 80's metal sound here (with modern production). These guys are good and satanic. Personally, I'm just not feeling it. They've got epic Iron Maiden type songs. Lots of good playing.

-I have to come back to this one.

Dead Existence - Born Into The Planet Scar's

2011
Dirty sludgy Southern dirt rock like Sourvein. Super long songs. Slow, fast.

The Wounded Kings - The Chapel Of The Black Hand

2011
Really long heavy psychedelic Doom with occasional female vocals. I think it's a female.

Candelmass - Nightfall

1987
One killer doom riff after another. The dudes voice is sure to turn some people off. Keeping Doom alive in the 80's, not many had it in them.

Indian - Slights and Abuse / The Sycophant

2007 / 2008
Big crushing heaviness that is a steamroller of a beatdown. For fans of Black Cobra, High On Fire...also long, long slow parts.

-This is two vinyl releases collected on one CD.

Witch Mountain - South Of Salem

2011
Heart meets Goatsnake with even more swagger. A favorite for 2011.

Ice Dragon - The Burl, The Earth, The Aether

2010
Sounds like late model Electric Wizard recorded on a boom box. With even more psychedelicness. I like it.

Pulling Teeth - Funerary

2011
Mind numbing crushing big epic Hardcore/Post Rock. This thing really is an epic. - More like Power Violence Crossover Doom and whatever Torche and Karp are.

-There's a Neurosis like epicness going on as well.

Mother Sun Flower - Mother Sun Fucker

2011
Starts out like late model Electric Wizard, but more psyche freak out. Then it turns indie rock. Then it's a bluesy White Stripes type number + some cool psyche. This is an EP.

Hunters - From Birth To Soil

2011
Big riff rockin' like Down. Gruff vocals. Easy to bang your head and get into it from the very first listen. I don't dig the vocals all that much, but they're not a deal breaker. This rocks!

Green & Wood - Devil's Plan

2011
Love this band. Love this album. Let the head bobbin' commence. Early Pentagram/Black Sabbath, you get the idea.

Eliminator - The One They Were Waiting For

2011
Technical Black Metal. Fast and scary. These guys really get going. Hang on a second...there's some styles here getting mixed that don't usually get mixed. They take some hard right turns towards the unexpected. Purist will be sure to hate on this. It's got the feel of a side project where things are too adventuresome for the "main" band. These guys have got skills and this record pretty much rules.

Brutality - In Mourning

1996
Some pretty awesome Death Metal going on right here. Gruff coarse vocals bordering on the whole cookie monster thing, but not quite there.

Devil - Time To Repent

2011
Retro Doom Metal that's not drawing strictly from one era to do it. Lo-ish fidelity.

Angel Of Damnation - Carnal Philosophy

2011
Traditional Doom Metal with lots of singing about the Devil and God.

Condenados - A Painful Journey Into Nihil

2011
Doomy Metal. I think they're singing in Spanish.

Grant Black - Babylon

2011
If Stevie Ray Vaughn was a fan of 70's rock riffage. There's a little Grunge vibe too, but mostly and overwhelmingly it's got the white boy blues playing the blues festival down in the park vibe.

Isole - Born From Shadows

2011
Sad Doomy metal. Dramatic vocals. It gets black metaly sometimes. Nice blend of styles. Well done. Get bummed!

Badr Vogu - Exitium

2011
This one kills it. Eyehategod type punishment with cookie monster vocals and hoarse screaming mixed in.

Deaf Heaven - Roads To Judas

2011
Atmospheric Black Metal. If Sonic Youth and Ludicra had a baby. Really well done good stuff.

Skeletonwitch - Forever Abomination

2011
Black Metal with high production qualities. It all starts sound the same after a while, but it's good none the less. Fast.
